Shiner

Katie's first black eye:

It doesn't look as bad as it made me and Katie feel when it happened. She tripped on a wooden spoon in the bathroom and hit the door jamb. It sort of looks like she is experimenting with purple eyeshadow.

The injury hasn't had an impact on her appetite:

Parents' Day Out

Meme and Papa kept Katie today so Jon and I could have a date.

Look at Jon's lunch! He had the country fried ribeye.

Jon takes a turn at blogging

I was off today so we spent the day out and about and then at the mall. Katie did a bunch of walking on her own at the mall. Her afternoon nap turned into a 3 hour nap so we finally went in and kind of waked her up, so here is a picture of her still asleep.

Katie is turning into her mom. She loves books and here are a couple pictures of her when we came into the room to see what she was doing and guess what, she was reading. She is becoming very good at finding the dog in all her books.

Safety Rule #1

Today I broke safety rule #1 of parenting a toddler: Never turn your back! In my defense, it was only a blink ago that she was an infant incapable of climbing onto an outdoor chaise. Luckily the result was all cuteness and no injuries.

I placed Katie on the grass in the backyard while I watered the garden. Here is where she was when I turned around.

When I started taking pictures, she opted for this pose.

Thank you, Aunt Diane, for the sun hat!

Morning Jog

I have been asked how Katie likes riding in the jogging stroller. Judging from her state when we arrived home this morning, I believe she finds it very relaxing.

Zoological Park

Starting our day with clean shoes.

We took Katie to the zoo today. Here is Grandma waving, "Hello!"

We had to wait out the rain for a little while, but once it cleared it was a perfect day. Katie used the weather delay to practice her walking with Grandpa.

Check out the shoes after the walking.

Shortly before this photo was taken the gorilla pictured charged at the glass on the opposite side. It made all the kids scream.

This is a contender for the best Katie and Daddy picture ever!

Best animal exhibit we saw:
The squirrel in the parking lot's trash receptacle.

Easter Celebrations

Jon really got into the Easter spirit this year.

Katie was barely a week old when Easter rolled around last year.

So this was the first year for her to get all dressed up for Easter morning worship. Meme picked out her dress.

Here is a family picture. It isn't often we are all dressed so well with our hair brushed. We are a casual family.

Last year we decided to make it a tradition to take Katie's picture in her big pink Easter basket. She was more cooperative last year as you can see by comparing the basket photo above and below.

Every family member asked today if Katie was walking all the time now. Our reply was no. After her break through on the 17th, her interest in walking waned. Tonight without any coercion she hopped up and started walking from person to person. Here she is visiting with cousin Em.

I made a strawberry rhubarb pie to be served with lunch at my Aunt Diane's house. It was as yummy as it looks. Just don't ask Jon his opinion.....

Fun with Science

Katie learned a lot about static electricity today. She loves balloons. She finds it so funny when you rub them on her hair.

Yea, Daddy!!!!

Katie cheered Daddy on during his bike race today. She was so proud of him. She yelled out, "Yea!" each time the racers circled by. She is going to be a true sports fan. She didn't mind the cold at all. It was 55 degrees with 25-35 mile per hour gusts of wind. The cheering encouraged Daddy to help his teammate get second place. Go McKinney Velo!

Mommy, Katie, and Lauren

Jon was in the lead for several laps.

Checking on his teammates

Maximum effort

Bouquet of Bluebonnets

We went with our friends Stefani and Jenna to take pictures in the bluebonnets. We drove all the way to Bonham, Texas and only found this measly patch. Stefani was more upbeat in her description. She called it a "bouquet of bluebonnets".
