Valentine's Day (pinterest edition)

So I planned to make 15 different crafts from pinterest to celebrate Valentine's Day. Pictured here are the ones we got around to.

 1.  Heart shaped crayons

These would have been cute to include with Katie's handmade cards (see #2 below), but after peeling, peeling, peeling we ended up with too few crayons for her class.  This craft was a literal and figurative "stinker".  Kate helped with the color sorting, but soon lost interest in the peeling and went off to play.   She rejoined me for the melting, however, she was appalled by the crayon smell wafting from the microwave.  Most appalling though was when I dumped the melted orange colors all over the microwave.  I left it in the sink to solidify.  Best husband award goes to mine, since he ended up scraping the wax off later.

2.  Handmade cards

Katie made Valentine cards using this kit and coordinating washi tape.  Below you can see the help offered by Little Sis.  Mostly throwing Valentines and working on her puzzle book.

I pick up the pieces of this puzzle book 22,563 times a day.  Guess that means she LOVES this book.

It is really exciting to see how Katie's writing has developed in the past year.  She is now able to copy the names of her classmates from the list or write them as I spell them aloud.

Two of my favorite Valentines.  See Char in the background there?

3.  Cookie Pops with Jello frosting

We had a cookie pop making play date the day before the 14th.  It was going great until I stopped reading the recipe and attempted to put the sticks in after the cookies baked!  Did not work.

The kids rolled with it (get it?  it's cookie dough humor).  Char is loving the jello frosting.  Mixing it up was probably the most fun for the youngsters.

4.  Pink milk hearts

The grand finale of our V-day celebrations:  pink milk frozen in to heart cubes.  I used the pink milk recipe from Weelicious and a new non-crayola tainted ice cube mold to whip these up.  Very tasty, if not very well photographed.

Rolling Up His Sleeves

Jon's got his sleeves rolled up because he is ready to get some work done at his new job.
The job is with the same company, but is located closer to home.  Yay!  Shorter commute!  Yay!  Yay!
We started the day with the new breakfast of champions - pumpkin pancakes.  It's a Jon thing to eat pumpkin in summer.  I just roll with it.  Maybe it makes him feel cooler.  Like autumnal coolness.  Not like Chuck Norris coolness.  Anyway, I hope he has a great day and many great days at the new job because I think he is great.

Farmer's Market Menu and Lil Ton of Fun goes to Church

This weekend we celebrated Grandmoochie's birthday with a farmer's market inspired dinner.  Great idea Aunt A!  It was a delicious meal and fun celebration.  We were in stitches over Grandpa's 45 question quiz to find out how well each of us knew the birthday girl.  Ton of Fun was declared the winner.  What a good son!
Lil TOF telling Mad Dog how excited she is about the first birthday party she's attended!

Here's the menu from our dinner.  Be prepared to be jealous...

pita chips with artichoke bruschetta
baby carrots and ranch dip
crispy chicken
lemon meringue pie

Also this weekend, TOF and I decided we needed to be more conscientious about documenting Lil TOF's firsts.  Well, last Sunday was Lil TOF's first time to go to church.  After feeding and clothing, ourselves and the girls, we completely forgot to snap a picture.  So in an effort to document Lil Sis' life at least half as well as Big TOF's, here (drum roll please) are pictures from this morning.  Lil TOF's 2nd time to go to church!

Big Sis Practice

Kennedy is staying with us today.  Katie loves practicing being the big sister.  So far, she helped fasten a diaper, put a bib on, and fed Ken some yogurt.  Not exactly like it will be with a newborn that NEVER LEAVES, but good practice for me and Kate.

Click here to see the big sis in action.

It's a...

Tonight we announced Baby Bundt's gender to a few of our friends and family members.
We asked everyone to dress in blue or pink to show their guess for boy or girl.
Scott went all out!

Which one of these is doing her own thing?  My family had a lot of boy votes.

Uncle D is casting his vote on the official baby gender guessing chalkboard.
There was a tie!

Katie and her cousins cut through double layers of icing to discover the color of the cake and the big news.

Strawberry cake
Pink cake

It's a girl!!!!!!

Now we wait, wait, wait to meet her.

pregerrific (16 weeks)

Here's the belly at 16 weeks along.
I'm allowed to run now, so the belly is all late night buttered popcorn and Baby Bundt.

Big Sis sends a lil' magic to B. B.
It seems K thinks the baby is located in my chest.

Baby Bundt is now the size of a russet potato.
Grow, baby, grow.

Abbey loves the potato baby a lot.
Abbey doesn't understand using food for anything other than devouring.
Now Katie says, "Abbey ate Baby Bundt."

Seasonal and weather appropriate props below.

Christmas Bakers

Grandma and Cookie cut, baked, and decorated today.  All the imperfect M&Ms, stray crumbs of cookie dough, and unstuck sugar sprinkles were devoured by the aptly nicknamed Cookie.

Cheerio

Katie enjoys her first ever bowl of cereal.

It's Honey Nut Cheerios. Yum!

We've been too scared to allow her a bowl full of milk before this. I am pretty sure it's a disaster, including tears and screams, waiting to happen. Although this first run went fine.

I gave her a bite from my bowl. Then she knew she was missing out munching on dry cereal only.

Next Food Network Star

Making a lemon poppy seed cake for Grandma's belated birthday celebration, Katie uses the mixer for the very first time!

Do you watch the Next Food Network Star? It's my favorite show! For those of you that do not watch it, each contestant is required to concisely express their culinary point of view. Katie's culinary point of view is, "I can do it myself. Mommy, you don't help." She yelled at me when I tried to help. She can do so much by herself these days.

Yes, the mixer is on. Katie's whole body was vibrating from it's power, but she takes her baking very seriously and would not let go.

The second picture is included so you know how close by I was and so you can wonder about my outfit. Yep, it's a tank tucked into soffe shorts. It's my Saturday style. I rock the fashion world!

P B & J

Katie's first ever (all natural, no sugar added, organic) peanut butter and (organic) jelly sandwich. She ate two bites. For her, that is a sign she liked it. Actually the fact that she was willing to touch it is amazing. You could say she is a picky eater.

Lucky 7

Abbey is 7 years old. Her birthday was Thursday, but we celebrated on Friday. She chose to go to Double Dip for a poochie cone. Her she is waiting for her cone.
CrAzY eYeS!

Yes, I forced the dog to wear the party hat I made for K's birthday. It is nice to have one child that can't reject your handmade craftiness. And now the cone is gone!

Party guests included:

Granddad

Grandma

Daddy

Mommy (not pictured - which may be the best thing about being the photographer.)

and Katie

Love these pics. Grandma made a comment about how ladylike and careful Katie was while eating her cone.

Things did get a lil' bit unladylike at the end. It was a night I was glad I carry around a 200 lb. diaper bag with a spare outfit in it. Being prepared finally pays!
